Brenda small

Brenda Tharp’s eye for design, color and the creative viewpoint has developed over years of exploring and photographing the nature and the cultural world. As an assignment photographer for a variety of travel and outdoor magazines, she honed her skills as capturing the moments in the landscape that express a sense of place. As a teacher, Brenda developed a core group of ideas that enable her to guide people to making more expressive photographs. She strongly believes that everyone can develop their creative vision, with a shift in perspective and an opening to the beauty that’s around them.

Her signature photographic style is graphic, simple and colorful on one hand, and interpretive and abstract on the other. She doesn’t find this a contrast, though, as she feels that everything is about light, design, color and interpretation. Brenda’s award-winning photographs are in the hands of private collectors across the United States, and she has had several solo exhibits of her images in the western USA. She has taught for Maine Media Workshops, Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, and Rocky Mountain School of Photography for over 11 years, and conducts her own field workshops and leads international photography tours. Brenda divides her time between teaching/tour leading, speaking engagements, making photographic prints, and creating stock photography for Getty and Danita Delimont stock agencies. An impassioned photographer and educator, Brenda shares her experience with nature and cultural photography through her successful seminars and workshops.
