Joe McNally workshop, August 22 - August 28
Exploring the light in Iceland
|
|
The class will be about chasing and exploring light in many ways, shapes and forms. Emphasis will be placed on recognizing good light, both ambient and artificial.
On the first day, we will share pictures and backgrounds and where all of us are in photography, both currently as well as projections and direction for the future. The day will finish with hands on discussion and demo of TTL flashes, as well as light shaping tools, accessories and strategies.

Starting Monday, and for the rest of the week, we will be on the move, working with models and found subjects in environments from villages to caves, landscapes to interiors. I have an career long interest in dance and the theater arts, so I have asked the workshop to seek models for our class who will provide drama, possibilities and movement in front of the lens. Every morning we will download and share a limited number of images so we can track and critique work as the week develops. As time allows, the instructor will demo possibilities from the simple to the complex in a variety of environments. Week ends with a class slide show of everyone’s work.

Who should attend The workshop is designed for those who are seeking to increase their versatility and skills in speaking with light to tell stories, on both the aesthetic and the technical level.

What to Bring Please bring the gear you are comfortable with: DSLR, wide to telephoto glass, cards, computer, and if you use a basic hot shoe lighting kit, feel free to bring that as well. We will be moving so traveling light and making the most out of a minimum of gear is key to our success.
