Our No 1 workshop assistant. By Einar Erlendsson
|
Ragnar Th. Sigurdsson is my Focus on Nature, International Photography Workshop Program in Iceland, No 1 assistant.
Ragnar knows Iceland nearly as well as he knows his wife after 30 years of marriage. He has traveled not only over all of Iceland, but also widely over the northern hemisphere of the earth, including to the North pole, Northern Canada, Greenland, Siberia and of course across every glacier and most mountains in Iceland. “If it is cold or steaming hot, I am there” Ragnar says.

Ragnar uses a specially modified Toyota military vehicle nicknamed “Big Red”. With 44″ inch tires, heating, stereo, computer holder, GPS, air pump for inflating his tires, 220W power supply, strobes, and more. With the deflating tires his 2.5 tons car becomes lighter on snow than a human being wearing just shoos. In his ATV he can travel across the highland of Iceland during winter and after the earth as dried up in the summer. But you will never see a mark left on the ground after Ragnar’s traveling.
He has worked closely with Arctic Trucks that specialize in modifying 4WD vehicles for use in rough environments, for example in the mountains, on glaciers or in the desert. http://www.arctictrucks.com/

Gettyimages, Corbis and numerous other stock agencies around the globe, represent Ragnar´s works. He specializes in photographing nature and travel in the Arctic. Content varies from people, geological formations, volcanoes, geothermal activity, unusual landforms, waterfalls, glaciers, and wildlife. The Northern Lights, are among his favorite subjects as well as glaciers, super jeep tours, and traveling to the hardest place to reach in Iceland

Strobes? Yes. One of Ragnar's signature styles is using strobe on in remote locations, often powered from his ATV. He uses them to mix with available light to get the interesting light in the images he is looking for.

Above anything else, Ragnar is a great companionship. His endless knowledge about nature, his good humor, pleasant attitude and good spirit is something you enjoy being around Ragnar. (Oh, and his French cognac in a woolen sock is excellent.) Life is indeed an adventure made richer by share it with him.
