Is there a connection between Thingvellir National Park and The Rolling Stones?
The answer is yes. The connection is Ólafur Helgi Kjartansson District Commissioner of Selfoss and Þingvellir, also known as the Rolling Stones number one fan in Iceland.
Last summer, 10th July 2008, the DC led a regular Thursday evening walk through the Park where he linked the the legendary rock group to the settlement of Iceland in 874 and foundation of Althingi in 930. The main theme was the search for freedom and new opportunities for people seeking better life. The Icelandic settlers left Norway not wanting to pay taxes and belong to one king of the whole of Norway. They went out on viking trips bringing money and riches home to Icleand after plundering foreign nations.

The Rolling Stones was founded in 1962 in London by five young men seeking solace in blues music of the black slaves from Africa, developed in the United States of America. They took the blues to new heights and popularity, became famous, created their own rock and roll, made trips abroad and brought home to United Kingdom riches and conquered many beautiful women, just like the Icelandic vikings who took the most beautiful women from Britain and Ireland.

Olafur also mentioned some of The Rolling Stones songs like Stupid Girl and Under my Thumb as a chauvinistic approach like sentencing women to be drowned for having babies outside marriage and said Sympathy For The Devil was a great reminder of human behaviour going wrong. The law can be vulnerable.
Ólafur Helgi Kjartansson is District Commissioner of Selfoss and Police Commissioner of same district.

From the song “Under My Thumb”
It's down to me, yes it is The way she does just what she's told Down to me, the change has come She's under my thumb Ah, ah, say it's alright

From the song “Stupid Girl”
I'm not talkin' about the kind of clothes she wears Look at that stupid girl I'm not talkin' about the way she combs her hair Look at that stupid girl The way she powders her nose Her vanity shows and it shows She's the worst thing in this world Well, look at that stupid girl
