Taking photography for a ride.

During many of our field trips we cannot miss meeting Icelandic horses. The Icelandic horse is a breed of horse that has lived in Iceland since the mid-800s AD, having been brought to the island by Viking settlers. It has since been bred for centuries without the addition of outside bloodstock.

Probably the most beloved trait of the Icelandic horse is its unique character. It is very willing, brave, happy, cheerful, confident, and offer its best with very little encouragement. It is a horse that tries to please the rider, is sensible, easy to ride, and easy to handle.

Icelandic horses are known for their special gaits. Apart from walk, trot and canter, and gallop, most Icelandic horses are able to tölt (rack) and some can go in skeið (pace). Both tölt and skeið is an excellent saddle pleasing gaits. Sitting in a saddle on a horse trained well in those gaits is like sitting in a comfortable chair.
